China International Food Safety & Quality (CIFSQ) Conference + Expo 2023
Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) and the Food Safety Consortium (FSC) have come together in a united effort to promote Hong Kong's capabilities in food safety and quality, and to seek out opportunities for network and collaboration. This endeavour is being realised through our participation in the China International Food Safety & Quality (CIFSQ) Conference in Beijing, between 2nd and 3rd November, 2023.
With emphasis on professional education and networking, CIFSQ brought 500+ global experts together to address critical issues, pinpointing recent advancements in science, management, legislation, safety standards, and innovative technologies that hold the potential to markedly improve global food safety.
Prof. Terence Lau, the Interim Chief Innovation Officer at HKBU and Chairman of FSC, gave a keynote speech on the "Non-targeted detection of food adulteration using AI and big-data enabled collaborative database," underlining the crucial role of innovation in bolstering food safety and mitigating food fraud for food commodities. Meanwhile, Prof. Furong Zhu, Associate Dean (Research and Postgraduate Studies) from the Department of Physics showcased the "Latest Traceable Fruit Quality Detection Solution," which utilises NIR technology for fruit quality detection and authentication. HKBU and FSC also connected with key stakeholders in the fields of food safety and food as medicine to expand new horizons of our efforts.
HKBU also showcased its infrastructure and commitments in fostering food safety innovation, technology translation, and commercialization. The exhibitions featured HKBU start-up companies of Prof. Furong Zhu - Crimson Vision Technology Limited, and Dr. Kangning Ren, Associate Professor from the Department of Chemistry – MicroFlow Innovation Limited. The former offers traceable fruit quality detector and IoT solutions, while the latter offers microfluidic technologies for combating antimicrobial resistance.
