Research Fellow in Microfluidic Device


The team of Dr.Ren in the Department of Chemistry are looking for Research Assistants and Postdoc Fellows to work on research projects develop novel microfluidic  device. Microfluidics deals with the behaviour, precise control and manipulation of fluids that are geometrically constrained to a small, typically sub-millimeter, scale. It is a multidisciplinary field at the intersection of engineering, physics, chemistry, biochemistry, nanotechnology, and biotechnology, with practical applications in the design of systems in which low volumes of fluids are processed to achieve multiplexing, automation, and high-throughput screening.

Research Assistant (without a Ph.D)/Senior Research Assistant (Postdoc)

The Ren group is in the Department of Chemistry, Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU), and is member of the State Key Laboratory of Environmental and Biological Analysis at HKBU. The group conducts research on bio-inspired functional materials and tissue-mimicking bioanalyitical systems based on novel microfabrication of polymeric materials. The group has been leading various research projects in Hong Kong and in Mainland China, including collaborative work with Stanford University, US, Tsinghua University, Beijing, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Hong Kong, etc.

Areas of research in the Ren group include 3D microfabrication, smart surface coatings, microfluidic systems, point-of-care analytical systems, organ-on-chip analytical systems, as well as the application and integration of the above technologies with chemical synthesis and instrumental analysis.  The appointee is expected to conduct research on one of the applications of the above mentioned technologies, such as self-cleaning coatings, rapid and high-throughput bioassays, environmental pollutant toxicity studies, and synthesis of nanomaterials inside a microfluidic flow. 


The main duties include but not limited to (a) conducting research under the guidance of the supervisor; (b) ordering and maintenance of laboratory equipment and supplies; (c) assisting laboratory personnel with learning new technical skills; and (d) performing any other duties as assigned by the supervisor as appropriate.


Applicants should (i) have a Bachelor's degree or above in chemistry, chemical engineering, biology, biomedical engineering, or a related discipline; (ii) be willing to learn new things, self-motivated, well organized, cooperative and responsible; (iii) be able to work independently; and (iv) have good communication skills in English.  Excellent English writing skill is highly advantageous.


Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract of three months commencing as soon as possible. Re-appointment thereafter is subject to mutual agreement and availability of funding. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
